Joddar, Debasish
At the doorstep of twenty first century, education has been adopted as a central theme in the development
policy dialogue both in national and international arena. As education is the basic pre-condition of economic
prosperity, the reconstruction of rural society at a very high social and cultural level is bound up not only
with the eradication of poverty but also with the elimination of ignorance, superstition and unconsciousness
with the light of education. Thus, microfinance programme through financial inclusion has attempted to
address this challenge among other components of poverty alleviation. But it has been observed that total
labour demand increases due to increasing credit supply into family enterprises through financial inclusion
and thus increases the children’s workload. An attempt has been made in the present study to evaluate the
impact of microenterprise participation on schooling and child labour issue has been examined through the
empirical evidence of West Bengal by collecting primary data in the selected districts of West Bengal. This
study unfortunately exhibits persistent dropout of children from school and this phenomenon appears to be
exacerbated by growing demand for labour due to the growth of the household enterprises. It has been also
found that many of microenterprises have tried to achieve expected level of sustainability by engaging their
children in enterprises instead of using hired labour.

Goa is a state with tourist potential and it has led to transformation and development of the state. With
development there has been employment generation as well as better education and skilling of youth. Though
this is a positive and healthy sign for economy of the state, it has subtly impacted the traditional occupations
and related entrepreneurship in Goa. It is believed that people involved in indigenous/traditional
entrepreneurship like reindeir, poder, kasar, ramponkars, chambbar, mhalo, madvol, kumbhar, mithgaudi, etc.
are slowly giving up these traditional occupations. This paper is an exploratory study involving case studies
on indigenous entrepreneurs in Goa and deals with issues like: What are the reasons why people are giving up
indigenous entrepreneurship? What is the impact of development related factors such as industrialization,
globalization, consumer preferences & lifestyle, education & skilling etc. on indigenous entrepreneurship?
Whether higher education and skill building has motivated indigenous people to continue and excel in their
traditional occupations, or has it led youth shy away from their traditional occupations and seek employment
elsewhere? What are the reasons for such behavior? What are the challenges these people face in running
business? etc. are dealt in the paper.

Factors Affecting Entrepreneurial Perception among Students in Oman: An Empirical Study
Joshi, Chintan A
Entrepreneurship is an important aspect for economic growth in any country. This research paper assesses the
perception of students in Oman on Entrepreneurship. A research was undertaken by conducting structured
questionnaire interview with students at various levels of higher educational institutes in Oman who pursued
Entrepreneurship as a specialization or a subject. Analysing the data collected efficiently using various
quantitative techniques to identify the relationships between multiple factors which influenced the decision to
be an Entrepreneur. Sincere efforts were made to build a regression model among various dependent and
independent variables under study. Data was collected from 100 students. Research concluded with
appropriate observations which were made based on the data collected .Final conclusion of the research paper
indicated that various independent variables under study (business family background, government funding
& appropriate infrastructure) had limited influence on the dependent variable(being an entrepreneur). It can
be suggested that inclusion of more independent variables in study could have better influence on the aspect of
being an entrepreneur
