<title>Technology in the New Economy and the New Entrepreneurs</title>

<summary type="text">Technology in the New Economy and the New Entrepreneurs

This article argues that the globalization of markets and the rapid technological change that characterizes the&#13;
“New Economy” is neither casual nor induced by scientific advances alone. The internationalization of&#13;
business activity has forced entrepreneurs to reinvent themselves into new entrepreneurs to respond to the&#13;
rapid maturity of traditional domestic markets. This fact, more than anything else, has allowed entrepreneurs,&#13;
not only, to go beyond their national frontiers to place their unsold domestic production, but, to use&#13;
technology in a new way to remain competitive at home and abroad. The progressive shrinkage of demand&#13;
caused by the growing maturity of domestic markets, has led to a progressive expansion of supply which&#13;
forced entrepreneurs to come to terms with a new market paradigm of consumer sovereignty. In this new&#13;
context, quality more than price, has come to determine firms´ competitive advantage not only in the domestic&#13;
but in the international markets. Although technological advances have supplied firms with the tools and&#13;
instruments needed to generate the shift from Economies of Scale to Economies of Scope, entrepreneurs have&#13;
had to reinvent how to use the new technology to render manufacturing systems more flexible and&#13;
competitive. This article will argue that, although, technology is necessary to bring about Flexible&#13;
Manufacturing Systems (FMS), the role of the entrepreneur remains central when it comes to implementing&#13;
flexible organizational structures that integrate men and machines. Technology alone cannot generate the&#13;
expected changes because technology is only a means to and end and not the end itself. This paper will&#13;
conclude pointing out that competitive advantage in the “New Economy” depends, not so much, on the&#13;
adoption of technology, but on how technology is used by entrepreneurs. The way entrepreneurs adopt,&#13;
integrate and use technology will determine the new entrepreneurs’ competitive advantage and shape the&#13;
organizational structure of firms in the New Economy.

The main objective of innovation since its inception has been to help human being live a comfortable life.&#13;
Moreover, apart from its usual definition of developing new product or process, the trajectory of innovation&#13;
plays quite a significant role in the development paradigm. However, besides its advantage in increasing&#13;
productivity and uplifting technological capabilities and accelerating growth of the nation, the incubation&#13;
process has significantly increased the job market in the developing economies like India and China. The&#13;
purpose of this paper is to outline the incubation innovation system of India. Furthermore, the study attempts&#13;
to identify and analyze the role and interactions between various actors and agencies conglomerate around the&#13;
technology incubation process. The study employs the framework of National System of Innovation (NSI) in&#13;
locating the association of different actors and agencies in influencing the innovation process. The proposed&#13;
study is one of the few in this category, especially while analyzing the technology business incubation (TBI)&#13;
in India. Besides, an in-depth analysis of the process of innovation at the incubation centres, the study also&#13;
provides a snapshot of technological incubation process in India and how it contributes to India’s innovation&#13;
system. In addition, the study besides analyzing the role and actors and agencies in the innovation incubation&#13;
process, also analyses the role of incubation in promoting innovation.

<title>IT Adoption Factors by Small Enterprises in the Auto Ancillary Industry</title>

<summary type="text">IT Adoption Factors by Small Enterprises in the Auto Ancillary Industry

The main objective of the current empirical research study is to understand the significant factors that favor&#13;
or challenge the IT adoption among the small enterprises of the auto ancillary industry. A detailed survey was&#13;
conducted among the small enterprises and the data was collected through the survey. The data was analyzed&#13;
using exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and multivariate regression analysis (MRA). The exploratory factor&#13;
analysis was conducted to establish the validity (through unidimensionality) and reliability (through&#13;
Cronbach’s Alpha) of IT adoption constructs. The MRA was carried out to evaluate the relationship among&#13;
the favoring and challenging factors of IT adoption in auto ancillary small enterprises sector. The favoring&#13;
factors such as perceived benefits of IT use and government supporting initiatives are in positive relation with&#13;
IT Adoption, whereas perceived competitive pressure and firm innovativeness are not statistically significant.&#13;
The challenging factors such as lack of financial capacity, lack of in-house IT manpower, small scale operation&#13;
and rigidity to change are found to be statistically significant for IT adoption. The current research study&#13;
identified that the variables such as government supporting initiatives, rigidity to change are found to be&#13;
statistically significant for IT adoption. The key government supporting initiatives such as low interest rates,&#13;
subsidies and associated schemes have to be enhanced and ensured that they reach the intended sector of the&#13;
automobile industry. Also, a range of relevant training programs for the employees in the domain of&#13;
personality development and information technology utility and its implementation have to be initiated by the&#13;
small enterprises of the auto ancillary industry to overcome the element of rigidity to change.
