<title>The Model of ICT in SMEs</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/52</link>
<description>The Model of ICT in SMEs
Polkowski, Zdzislaw
The paper is devoted to modern ICT (Information and Communications Technology) solutions in the hybrid information system (IS) in Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Small companies in Poland were chosen as examples. The paper consists of eight parts. After a brief introduction, the role of ICT in SMEs is presented. The&#13;
next section is devoted to forming the problem statement and describing the goal of study, research questions as well as the methodology. Next, the reasons are discussed why modern ICT technologies are used only in part of SMEs in Poland. Examples of ICT solutions are characterized and analyzed. Also, the use of hybrid ICT systems is a significant element, taken into consideration in the paper. The most important part of the article is a presentation of the ICT model which can be implemented in SMEs. The model was developed and applied based on author’s many years of experience in the implementation and integration of ICT. The final part of the paper contains results of research and short conclusions. In addition, the work includes assumptions regarding further development of models of ICT in Poland with particular emphasis on SMEs. In this paper information is analyzed from several specialist representative Polish ICT companies, SMEs, several ICTs and economic papers on the current situation in Poland. Additionally, owners of many Polish SMEs were interviewed.

<title>SME Banking Revolutionizes Women Entrepreneurship: Bangladesh Perspectives</title>

<description>SME Banking Revolutionizes Women Entrepreneurship: Bangladesh Perspectives
Ghosh, Sujan Kumar; Mitra, Mohita
Empowerment of women has now been taken as one of the significant tools for development in those countries that standing on take-off stage.Bangladesh is a developing country where men and women ratio is 104:100. It means almost 50% of the total populations are women. But the social, political and economic conditions of women are very vulnerable. Although they have to complete all the household works which is not recognized inthe national GNP. The financial assistances provided by the banks have played an important role in promoting their involvement in&#13;
the entrepreneurial activities. Banks, in Bangladesh,have been providing SME loans to the women entrepreneurs to do business. Therefore, the study initiates to investigate that how SME loans, provided by banking sector of Bangladesh, responds to women entrepreneurship development. Besides, this study also attempts to find out all the&#13;
barriers faced by the women entrepreneurs in case of SME loans provided by banks in Bangladesh. This study has been done on the basis of both primary and secondary data. It has been observed from the study that 54% of the entrepreneurs had annual return from investment implying that due to providing loan and other facilities to SME&#13;
women entrepreneurs’ by banks, the social status of women in the family and in the society has increased significantly. However, the paper also focuses on some issues of concern and challenges of women entrepreneurship development through SME banking. Finally, this paper provides some strategic recommendations.

<title>Performance of Small Scale Sector in India: A Three Dimensional Analysis</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/50</link>
<description>Performance of Small Scale Sector in India: A Three Dimensional Analysis
Pyngavil, Rajesh, S; Singla, Anju; Gupta, M L
Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) all over the world have been recognised as silent drivers of a nation’s economy. Their role in the economic and social development of a country is well established. The MSME sector is a breeding ground of entrepreneurship, often driven by individual creativity and innovation at grass root&#13;
level and shows dynamism in terms of Micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) have been accepted as an engine for economic growth and equitable development. Developing countries such as India, China, Pakistan, Malaysia and many other South Asian countries consider small and medium enterprises as backbone of their economy.&#13;
The MSMEs constitute over 90 percent of enterprises in most of the economies and are instrumental in generating more job opportunities and high industrial production. In India, after agriculture, the MSME sector provides the maximum opportunities for both self-employment and employment in the country. In fact, the employment potential&#13;
of this sector is unmatched by any other sector of the economy. These enterprises have been playing a significant role in overall economic development of the country, where labour is abundant in nature and millions of people are unemployed and underemployed. MSMEs are the second largest manpower employer, after agriculture. These enterprises play a very important role in socio-economic growth and development of the Indian economy on account of their inherent advantages like low capital requirement, high employment generation, dispersal of industrial&#13;
activity, utilisation of locally available resources and expanding entrepreneurial base. The promotion of this sector, underlines with twin objectives, namely, employment generation and eradication of poverty. This paper discusses on three dimensions of performance of small scale sector on economic development in India viz., Employment&#13;
Generation, Contribution to Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and Export Earnings. The analysis of 10 years (2003- 2013) reveals that a significant increase and improvement has been made by this sector in these dimensions. Further, this sector requires adequatesupport to contribute in the overall development of the economy

<title>Performance Modelling of Indian SMEs: A DEA Approach</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/49</link>
<description>Performance Modelling of Indian SMEs: A DEA Approach
Pal, Sanjay; Mishra, Rohitakumar
The purpose of the present study is to develop a model through Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) for assessment and prediction of performance of Small &amp; Medium Enterprises (SMEs) for effective decision making. DEA is a robust mathematical tool for evaluation of efficiency of SMEs. DEA basically, takes into account the input and&#13;
output components of a decision making unit (DMU) to calculate technical efficiency (TE). TE is treated as an indicator for performance of DMUs and comparison has been made among them. A sensitivity analysis has been carried out to study the robustness of the ranking of SMEs obtained through DEA. A total of 41 Indian companies&#13;
who are producing auto components are chosen for benchmarking purpose. The average score of efficiency is 0.565with a standard deviation of 0.315 when Charnes, Cooper and Rhodes (CCR) model is used. Similarly, when the Banker,&#13;
Charnes and Cooper (BCC) model is used the average score is 0.751 with a standard deviation of 0.246. The rank order correlation coefficient between the efficiency ranking obtained through CCR and BCC model is 0.763 (p =0.000) which is significant. The peer group and peer weights for the inefficient SMEs have been identified. This is&#13;
useful for benchmarking for the inefficient DMUs. The SMEs can identify the parameters in which they lack and take necessary steps for improvement. The peer group for the inefficient SMEs indicates the efficient SMEs to which the inefficient SMEs are closer in its combination of inputs and outputs. This work the managers to predict the&#13;
performance of individual DMU based on input consumed and generate various “what-if” scenarios. The study provides a simple but comprehensive methodology for improving the performance of SMEs in India
