<title>Trust, Network, and Market: Start-up Strategies of SMEs in Indian ICT industry</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/396</link>
<description>Trust, Network, and Market: Start-up Strategies of SMEs in Indian ICT industry
Sengupta, Anirban
It is well understood that market plays a determining role with reference to business development. However, the process through which an enterprise identifies and develops a market for its business offering varies contextually and therefore, involves uncertainty. Corporates adopt different strategies, involving innovation and brand-building, in order to address such uncertainty. However, often such strategies are resource-intensive where resource not only involves finance, but also time, and dedicated personnel. It is quite easily understandable that such strategies are seldom affordable for emerging small and medium enterprises (SMEs) which are often resource-constrained. However, what is interesting is that despite such obstacles a large number of SMEs get started on a regular basis and a good number of them do considerable business. This phenomenon takes a particularly interesting form in new economy which has witnessed mushrooming of new SMEs in the recent years. It is in this context it becomes important to explore the alternative resources that SMEs apply, particularly in the start-up stage, in order to develop a market for themselves and maintain control over it. The current paper attempts to explore the significance of collaboration emerging out of trust and network as an alternative resource. The paper bases itself upon interviews of entrepreneurs in Information and Communication Technology (ICT) industry in India.

<title>Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development in Vietnam</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/395</link>
<description>Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Development in Vietnam
Phatate, Rajkumar
Vietnam has the potential to emerge as a next Asian giant on the economic map of the world, with its phenomenal GDP growth from the introduction of "Doi Moi" in 1986 through to till recently. This growth is a manifestation of the entrepreneurial spirit of the Vietnamese people and the state. The Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) sector is the major driver of this growth. However, the same also faces certain challenges that need to be addressed for a sustainable growth of the Vietnamese economy. The paper explores these challenges and suggests possible changes in current policies. It also highlights measures that can assure growth of the SMEs, which are the major contributors to the private organizations.

<title>Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Artisan Clusters: Opportunities and Challenges</title>

<description>Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) Artisan Clusters: Opportunities and Challenges
Verma, Nandita; Pareek, Ashish; Saraswat, B P
By exploring the challenges and opportunities of SME artisan clusters, this paper departs from traditional research focussed on cluster dynamics. We suggest policy intervention based on the findings of the research by comparing an artisan cluster with a technology cluster. The differences in the two are brought out. The argument is that specific cluster development programmes need to be chalked out taking the help of established organizations as nodal agencies in order to build a vibrant seedbed for future large organizations.

<title>Role of Rural Entrepreneurship in Development of SME sector in Assam with special reference to Nalbari District</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/393</link>
<description>Role of Rural Entrepreneurship in Development of SME sector in Assam with special reference to Nalbari District
Das, Biju Mani; Sarma, Rosy
Economic development and entrepreneurship development is closely interrelated. To develop the economic status of a nation the individual must put their efforts towards entrepreneurship development. In Assam, there is huge number of unemployed youth, which is one of the major obstacles for economic growth. There is about 27 lakhs unemployed youth in Assam, which is a major concern for underdevelopment of the economy. No doubt, Assam has lots of human and natural resources and there is ample scope for development in Assam as well as in Nalbari district particularly in the rural areas such as for processing of cereals, fruits, vegetables, milk, meat and other agricultural products like Jute, Ramie etc. So as to make a sustainable economic development it is utmost important to make proper use of the resources available. In this sense, rural unemployed youth must have to take the initiative towards the economic progress through entrepreneurial activities. It is worthwhile to be mention that in the district of Nalbari the rural population is 1110706 (which is 97.59% of total) and urban is 27478 (which is 2.41% of total) as per the census 2001. The literacy rate of rural and urban area is 67.55% and 88.61% as per the census 2001 as against 55.38% and 80.62% respectively in 1991 in the district. Moreover, entrepreneurs are the driving force behind Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs). Therefore, greater emphasis has been given to create awareness among the educated unemployed youth to take initiative to put forward their skills to make them more economic and realistic through entrepreneurship instead of waiting for Government job or searching for Government job after completion of their study.
