<title>Women Entrepreneurship and its Sustainability: A Study into its Viability in Odisha</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/8105</link>
<description>Women Entrepreneurship and its Sustainability: A Study into its Viability in Odisha
Digal, Sabat Kumar; Murmu, Sumitra
Educated and economically empowered women not only move the family but also the society and the nation&#13;
forward. Realizing this inherent potential of women, the Governments at the centre and in the States have&#13;
formulated many well-intentioned policies and have undertaken result-oriented initiatives like microentrepreneurship,&#13;
micro finance, etc. but most of these seem to have yielded sub-optimal results. Various&#13;
research studies and the review of policy outcomes give one an idea that the problems are multi-dimensional&#13;
and approach is unidirectional. The solutions prescribed are constrained by diverse of factors. Therefore, a&#13;
study was made in twelve Districts in the State of Odisha to assess the feasibility and sustainability of women&#13;
entrepreneurship by commercially exploiting at least one abundantly or seasonally available product in each&#13;
district to economically empower the women of the concerned district. Three years of study shows that this is&#13;
not only feasible but also capable of addressing many loopholes in the previous policy initiatives. Therefore, it&#13;
is suggested that at least one easily available product in each of the districts, may be commercially exploited&#13;
which will result in making the women not only self-sufficient but also will empower them and promote&#13;
micro-entrepreneurship.

<title>Social Structure and Entrepreneurship: Welfare Consequences of Employment Choice in Rural and Urban India</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/8104</link>
<description>Social Structure and Entrepreneurship: Welfare Consequences of Employment Choice in Rural and Urban India
Nadella, Venkat Krishna
Does social structure of the region (in which the individual resides) influence the employment choice of the&#13;
individual? What are the welfare consequences of employment choice in developing countries? This paper&#13;
addresses these research questions by comparing the welfare consequences of employment choice – selfemployed,&#13;
casual labor, employers, and salaried employees – in rural and urban India. We observe that social&#13;
structure of a region is strongly associated with entrepreneurial choice and welfare outcomes of various&#13;
socioeconomic groups. Relative welfare of lower caste individuals, compared to other backward caste and&#13;
upper caste individuals is significantly lower in districts with higher degree of social and economic&#13;
stratification.

<title>Social Capital as a Driver of Entrepreneurship Behaviour among Low Income Population: A Study among Kudumbashree Micro Enterprises in Kerala</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/8071</link>
<description>Social Capital as a Driver of Entrepreneurship Behaviour among Low Income Population: A Study among Kudumbashree Micro Enterprises in Kerala
Prathap, Sangeetha K
Causation studies on human behavior have often found the influence of environmental factors or internal&#13;
dispositions in shaping or controlling human behavior. Social cognitive theory explains psycho social&#13;
functioning in terms of triadic reciprocal causation (Bandura, 1986), where personal factors (cognitive,&#13;
affective and biological events), environmental events and behavioural patterns operate as interacting&#13;
determinants. Microfinance activities based on group lending or training programmes based on participative&#13;
methods and involvement stimulates greater social capital facilitating social interaction among group&#13;
members. Social capital, consisting of the actual and potential resources embedded in social networks,&#13;
emanating from the entrepreneur’s networks with other economic actors facilitates opportunity identification&#13;
and exploitation. Thus a microfinance client is more likely to attempt micro entrepreneurship because of the&#13;
environmental influence generated by the social capital offered through its networks. The study is conducted&#13;
in the state of Kerala, where the State Poverty Eradication Mission (SPEM) popularly known as&#13;
“Kudumbashree Mission” has reached the low income population through the concept of microfinance.&#13;
Respondents of the study are Kudumbashree members in Kerala. The entrepreneurial behaviour of low&#13;
income population, mainly women is focussed, with a view to understand the role of social capital in infusing&#13;
entrepreneurial behaviour along with other factors including entrepreneurship orientation, environment&#13;
munificence and entrepreneurship training. The results will be beneficial to policy makers in understanding&#13;
the drivers that promote entrepreneurial intention among low income population.

The research paper ‘Regional study of a socio-economic cluster in heritage management’ is an attempt to&#13;
explore the dynamic functioning of the unit Ahmedabad Heritage Venture Lab and the specialized micro&#13;
start-up ventures associated with it in the field of heritage management. The primary objective behind&#13;
undertaking this research work was to get acquainted with the functioning styles adopted by such socioeconomic&#13;
enterprises. After conducting one to one interview with two entrepreneurs of this socio-economic&#13;
cluster, case studies have been formulated to highlight the significant details and data regarding their firms. It&#13;

the entrepreneurial journey of the social and community-based enterprises, the vision and principles of the&#13;
