<title>Social Entrepreneurs Reforming Agriculture Sector: A Solution to Feed the World</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/8113</link>
<description>Social Entrepreneurs Reforming Agriculture Sector: A Solution to Feed the World
Kumar, Ramesh
Global report on food crises (2017) states that nearly 124 million populations across 51 countries and&#13;
territories faced acute food insecurity, which was108 million across 48 countries in 2016. The agriculture&#13;
sector in India is losing its dominance in contribution towards GDP, Exports, and employment continuously&#13;
since 1951. Agriculture sector’s share in GDP, exports and in employment generation in the Indian economy&#13;
is showing declining trends. It is high time to deal with these issues with some innovative ways. UN report&#13;
posits that by 2050 worldwide demand for food is likely to increase by 70% and resource-intensive industrial&#13;
farming cannot meet that demand. A clear solution is Smallholder farmers feed 80% of the developing world,&#13;
but smallholder production can still be massively improved, and if smallholders get the right support, here&#13;
comes role of social entrepreneurship, with their innovative way of handling these issues they are reforming&#13;
by way of farming for smallholders. A multinational organisation eKutir and its subsidiary are taken as a case&#13;
for the study. The paper is based on secondary data, and we found that how eKutir with its backward and&#13;
forward linkage model with the use of technology is bringing change in the life of millions of smallholder&#13;
farmers. Through its different projects, it is creating and improving only economic value for the smallholders&#13;
but also creating social value for the society in large.

<title>SILICE Project: Promoting Social Innovations and Social Entrepreneurship in Higher Educational Institutions to Build Conscious Citizens of Tomorrow</title>

<description>SILICE Project: Promoting Social Innovations and Social Entrepreneurship in Higher Educational Institutions to Build Conscious Citizens of Tomorrow
Routray, Surekha
KIIT (deemed to be) University, one of the premier Private University in eastern India is a partner of the of&#13;
the SILICE Project ( funded by Erasmus progamme of European union). One of the project assimilations that&#13;
were developed is innovation in education “development of learners in the 21st century”.&#13;
The educational system in India and around the world is at a turning point, turning from modernity to&#13;
postmodernism, which again raises questions about the nature of education, its aims, teaching methods,&#13;
curriculum, evaluation methods, organizational structure, and the ethical and political aspects of the&#13;
education system. A new educational paradigm is needed that will enable the education system to cope with&#13;
new ways of thinking and behavior. In a initiation of the required paradigm shift of promoting mass&#13;
production of skills to promotion of individuality and creative thinking especially keeping mind the needs of&#13;
the current and future society, a three pronged approach was designed to reach out the youth of today. The&#13;
integration of awareness regarding alternative option of earning livelihood was done in the form of 3 and 4&#13;
credit point courses in the graduate/post graduate level across diverse domains and as workshops in the&#13;
external stakeholder to initiate the sensitization of the students to the prospects of Social Innovation and&#13;
Social Entrepreneurship. For people who have already taken the initial steps in this direction a screening&#13;
mechanism to weed out the flighty individuals was designed. A progressive support platform (SinnoLab) for&#13;
the sincere and dedicated individuals where they could get easy access to all the support to explore and&#13;
experiment with their ideas to take it to the next level. The efforts are aligned to create enough ripples in the&#13;
ecosystem that they will ultimately create culminate in a big wave of progressive change in the thinking&#13;
process of the society.

<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/8110</link>
<description>Integrated Impact Assessment of Women Empowerment Schemes for Creating Jobs: With Reference to STEP and E-HAAT
Pandey, Nisha; Godase, Radnyi
Recognising the importance of women in the economic growth of the nation, the Government of India along&#13;
with State Governments has been taking several efforts since post-independence period to uplift women from&#13;
their conditions in general. Attempts were made by the Government to address the issues through&#13;
employment, empowerment, labour force participation, education, gender equality and entrepreneurship. The&#13;
focus of Government is progressively shifting towards promoting women entrepreneurship to motivate&#13;
women to participate in the economic activities. The study examines the perspective of women who are getting&#13;
benefitted through various government schemes implemented in assistance with non-governmental&#13;
organizations. The impact observed is in terms of such as - financial assistance, training facilities,&#13;
infrastructure and its awareness, motivation, confidence, increase in the rate of women opting for&#13;
entrepreneurship. Studies have shown that such initiatives are boosting self-confidence, increasing the&#13;
purchasing power and decision making power, leading to their empowerment. It, therefore, addresses the&#13;
economic, socio-cultural, inter-personal, psychological, political and legal domains of empowerment. The&#13;
study has been conducted in two selected village of Maharashtra. Data was collected from various NGO,&#13;
Women entrepreneurs and women beneficiaries associated with various Self-Help Group’s (SHG’s) in the&#13;
Kanave, Shahapur (Dist. Thane) and Vengaon, Karjat (Dist. Raigad) regions. The qualitative research&#13;
method has been adopted for analysis of this research .The primary data was collected from personal&#13;
interviews with well-structured questionnaires and focus group discussions in both the areas. The study&#13;
indicates that the schemes are working in the interest of women and the quality of life of women has been&#13;
changed in terms of decision making power, going out, and taking decision for their children’s’ education after&#13;
working with various SHGs. Yet, measures are necessary to design schemes and programmes that will benefit&#13;
women in the long run.
