<title>Entrepreneurial Practices and Management Strategies: A Review</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/947</link>
<description>Entrepreneurial Practices and Management Strategies: A Review
Ganesh, P
The highly uncertain and dynamic economic situation coupled with a competitive global environment creates both new threats and new opportunities, forcing entrepreneurs to become more and more strategic in their management approaches. This is becoming important for both new as well as established enterprises to compete and survive. Entrepreneurs are therefore forced to look at the identification of strategic opportunities and converting them into competitive advantages and better organizational performances. However, by its very nature, true entrepreneurship is not constrained by strategies or principles of management, and entrepreneurs are required to innovate and change continuously as they progress on their path of creating and exploiting opportunities and fulfilling customer and market expectations. They are thus driven more by the need to adapt, adopt and succeed. However, an established or realized venture needs to be more management and strategy oriented so as to be able to sustain, survive and succeed in the long run. There is thus a dichotomy in the approaches between entrepreneurship and management. Also, while both entrepreneurship and strategic management are focused on creating value for the customer, entrepreneurs need to identify and create opportunities to exploit the resources; and strategists need to allocate and use the resources (optimally) in order to exploit the opportunities for sustainable competitive advantage. Entrepreneurial actions and strategic actions can contribute to value creation independently, but they can contribute even more when they are integrated. This paper explores the areas of intersection between entrepreneurship practices and strategic management by reviewing the extant literature on the subject and benefit both management strategists and entrepreneurs.

<description>Tourism Entrepreneurship in Assam: A Study on the Employment Opportunities in Tourism in Assam
Kalita, Phatik Chandra; Barman, Panchanan
Assam is one of the prominent States of the North Eastern Region (NER) of India, has every scope of being the chosen destination of tourists because of its natural beauty, rich tourism products, ethnic diversity, and uncharted mysteries, wildlife sanctuaries, adventure tourism, eco-tourism, hill stations, lakes and places of historical importance. Tourism in Assam is based on wildlife, natural beauty, various flora and fauna, holy&#13;
shrines, endless green tea gardens, turbulent rivers, and colourful cultural festivals. Tourism is the fastest growing industry among all the industries of the world. Tourism has become an important industry in many countries. In Assam there are five national parks and fifteen wildlife sanctuaries, the great historical monuments of Ahom Kingdom, the largest river IslandMajuli, the smallest river Island Umananda, the Jatinga where the birds commits suicide etc. The famous species of one horned rhino is found only in the national parks of Assam. Eco-tourism is one of the fastest growing tourism segments of Assam. The Assam Tourism Policy, 2008 has added to the enthusiasm amongst the entrepreneurs and by the Policy the state government has given special emphasis to encourage private investment in the tourism sector by providing financial and logistic support.Moreover, to attract the foreign tourists the state government has made all the basic arrangement for construction of a Five Start Hotel in Guwahati in collaboration with Tata Group. Entrepreneurial development in the sector can be a strong antidote for the poor level of tourism performances. The Assam Government has given thrust on self employment generation schemes like the “Assam Bikash Yojana”. Under the scheme the educated unemployed youths are engaged in tourism promotional activities like transport, tourist guide, wayside amenities, food kiosk, restaurants, dhabas etc. The study is an attempt to make a modest and a pioneering analysis based on primary and secondary data on the emergence, and the prospect of&#13;
job opportunity in the tourism entrepreneurship in Assam, in particular, and the North-East India, in general. The study provides a conceptual model of entrepreneurial growth in tourism entrepreneurship of Assam.

<title>Tourism Entrepreneurship for the Youth – An Analysis of Rural and Urban India</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/327</link>
<description>Tourism Entrepreneurship for the Youth – An Analysis of Rural and Urban India
Mishra, Subodh Kumar
It is surprising to know that Tourism is world’s largest industry accounting for 5% of world GDP and 7% of world employment. But what is more interesting is that 90% of world’s tourism entities are run by young entrepreneurs. On the other hand, India is a ‘young country’ now with 65% of its population below the age of 35. Looking at the diverse tourism products India offers or can offer, its performance in world scenario is&#13;
dismal. Thus, there lies a need for developing tourism entrepreneurship among youth in India. A proper analysis of the current scenario followed by planning and implementation can catapult Indian tourism into heights unimagined and turn the potentials into performance. The idea of making two separate analyses – urban &amp; rural – is to accept the fact that India has two parallel economies within and also to bridge the gap between them. From pure tourism point of view urban India has metros, malls, multiplexes, museums to offer. In contrast, rural India has nature’s beauty, life’s simplicity and a cultural identity to offer. In this age of possibilities, we just can’t leave the tourism development to political willingness or capital expenditure. It is for the youth of this country to realise this and use tourism to stop regional and economic disparities.

<title>Tea Tourism: An Unexplored Business Opportunity in Assam</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/326</link>
<description>Tea Tourism: An Unexplored Business Opportunity in Assam
Baruah, Samannoy
Assam is world’s single largest tea growing region. No one can deny the importance of tea industry in socioeconomic development of Assam. In recent times it has been seen that the tea industry in Assam is facing problems of price decline, price volatility, high production costs, tough competition etc. due to which tea growers are witnessing a downward trend in their revenue generation. In such a situation, tea tourism can be&#13;
seen as an area to expand business and to earn handsome revenue by putting little additional investment and effort. The lush green tea gardens covering hundreds of acres of land along with sweet smells of tea plantations offer altogether a different experience to tourists. This paper tries to examine the trend of tourism, status of the&#13;
tea industry and the prospects of tea tourism market in Assam. The paper is descriptive in nature and is based on secondary data. It is argued that tea tourismis a prospective and unexplored market for business development and there is a lot of scope for promoting tea tourism in the state of Assam.
