<title>Sustainability at Grassroots through Collective Entrepreneurship: A Case Study of Stone Quarry Workers</title>

<description>Sustainability at Grassroots through Collective Entrepreneurship: A Case Study of Stone Quarry Workers
Husain, Farheen; Singh, Sunit
Economists’ argue that entrepreneurship is audaciously stepping out in uncertain conditions to exploit the&#13;
opportunity arisen from maladjustment in market. Sociologists extend the argument and relate it to a wider&#13;
social change. They view entrepreneurship as a social movement and found that there are entrepreneurs in&#13;
spheres other than economy. In the evolving landscape of human development, where the paradigm is shifting&#13;
over the decades from that of welfare driven, heavily state- provided services to that of rights-based advocacy&#13;
oriented approach towards social and economic empowerment, face of employment is also changing. From&#13;
employment guarantee and employment generation programmes at state decided time and space, focus now is&#13;
on locally produced self-employment in micro units and collective entrepreneurship in community owned&#13;
enterprises. Cooperatives, Federations, SHGs, JLGs, Producer Company, Farmer Clubs are to name few such&#13;
concepts. These concepts present more effective answer to the challenge of sustainability that development&#13;
poses on humanity. This paper endeavors to present a model of collective entrepreneurship based on our&#13;
experience with unorganized sector workers. In light of the impacts that this intervention made, we propose&#13;
that collective entrepreneurship is a more sustainable means of promoting entrepreneurship, both at&#13;
institutional level and at societal level.

<title>Impact of Financial, Social and Human Capital on Entrepreneurial Success</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/5970</link>
<description>Impact of Financial, Social and Human Capital on Entrepreneurial Success
Yadav, Maheshwar Prasad
This paper analyzes the impact of financial, social and human capital on entrepreneurial success through the&#13;
constructs of initial investment in business, access to finance, network ties, trust in network, shared vision,&#13;
education, and experience as the predictors. This empirical study was conducted via structured questionnaire&#13;
on a sample of 118 Nepalese renewable energy enterprises having 264 respondents through correlation and&#13;
multiple regression analysis using IBM SPSS statistics 20. The study shows that the strong role played by&#13;
access to finance, network ties, trust in network, education and experience while a weak role played by initial&#13;
investment in business and shared vision in determining entrepreneurial success. Accordingly, the study&#13;
theorizes an educated and experienced individual having access to finance and good networking through trust&#13;
among networks can be successful entrepreneurs. This study can be further extended by empirical testing of&#13;
the proposed model of entrepreneurial success to get greater insights into the results.

<title>Exploring Scaling up Mechanism of Grassroots Innovations through Entrepreneurship in India</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/5969</link>
<description>Exploring Scaling up Mechanism of Grassroots Innovations through Entrepreneurship in India
Sharma, Gautam; Kumar, Hemant
Grassroots innovations are the products created by people at the ‘bottom of the pyramid’. These innovations&#13;
are developed in resource constrained environments and have put in little or no ‘R&amp;D’. Grassroots&#13;
innovations are considered to have potential and significance for people in developing countries to solve&#13;
problems on their own and democratise the process of innovation. Since grassroots innovations are not created&#13;
keeping in mind the ‘market potential’ of these products, the diffusion of these products through entrepreneurs&#13;
are widely debated in academic literature. To ‘scale up’ these grassroots innovations, business models are&#13;
sought by the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) that is committed towards scouting, documenting and&#13;
commercialising of these innovations in the market. However, the absence of entrepreneurial culture and&#13;
supporting infrastructure in the informal sector has limited the success of commercialisation of grassroots&#13;
innovations in the market. The paper discusses the cases of selected grassroots innovations to understand the&#13;
entrepreneurial process for commercialising such innovations. The paper finds out, during the stages of idea&#13;
generation and product implementation, none of the grassroots innovators were interested to launch their&#13;
products commercially. Even though commercialisation through entrepreneurship is regarded as the best way&#13;
to scale up these innovations, there are other ways like open sharing that could be considered to better diffuse&#13;
these innovations among the people who would want them the most.

<title>Entrepreneurship Development as a Viable Option for Creating Sustainable Livelihood in Nigeria</title>
<link>http://dspace.ediindia.ac.in:8181/xmlui//handle/123456789/5968</link>
<description>Entrepreneurship Development as a Viable Option for Creating Sustainable Livelihood in Nigeria
Ozigbo, Nathaniel C
This study examines the role of entrepreneurship development as a viable option for sustainable livelihood in&#13;
Nigeria. The notion of engendering greater entrepreneurial activity has become a prominent goal of the&#13;
government. More globally, governments across the world are increasingly recognizing the positive impact&#13;
that the creation of new businesses could have on employment generation as well as the competitive&#13;
advantages that small firms can bring to the market place. It is now recognized that education and training&#13;
opportunities play key role in cultivating future entrepreneurs to grow their businesses to greater levels of&#13;
success. European Commission (2008) asserted that the aim of entrepreneurship education and training&#13;
should be to develop the entrepreneurial capacities and mindsets that benefit the individuals by fostering&#13;
creativity, innovation and self employment. This study emphasizes that understanding the need to creating&#13;
and nurturing entrepreneurship development, that the government should take up strategic initiatives and&#13;
implement plans aimed at impacting entrepreneurial skills and knowledge through education. Such a move no&#13;
doubt provides the freedom and the trust to the entrepreneurs to achieve their dreams. The entrepreneurs&#13;
interviewed had mixed emotions about entrepreneurship as viable options for sustainable livelihood in&#13;
Nigeria. Some indicated that entrepreneurship development is essential for rapid and sustainable economic&#13;
growth and that it creates the required manpower and skills necessary for accelerated growth, reduced&#13;
unemployment and reducing poverty alleviation. Others emphasizes that it is strategic for the government to&#13;
assign significant and increasing role to entrepreneurship in order to revamp the economy. The study&#13;
recommends that the government should give loan to young entrepreneurs when needed with lower interest&#13;
rate that is affordable to the entrepreneurs. Secondly, the government officials should discourage corruption,&#13;
tribalism, religious bias and favouritism and ensure that every individual is treated with equal right and&#13;
respect in terms of giving loan. Finally, that strong patent law should be provided by the government in order&#13;
to protect local entrepreneurs from foreign producers.
