| dc.description.abstract | Many promising bioactive substances derived from the marine ecosystem have already been isolated and studied. The prospect of finding a new drug in the sea, especially among coral reef species, may be 300 to 400 times more likely than isolating one from a terrestrial ecosystem. Several extracts from the marine organisms are being advanced, including a cancer therapy based on extracts from algae and a painkiller derived from the venom in cone snails. | en_US |
