Abstract

EDII celebrated National Handloom Day with policymakers, industry experts, IP specialists, financial institutions and artisans; four traditional crafts of Gujarat - Jasdan Patari craft, Patan Mashru sarees and fabrics, Banaskantha applique work and Saurashtra Moti Bharatkam (bead work) - were honoured with GI certificates. EDII Director General Dr Sunil Shukla said GI tagging plays a vital role in protecting traditional knowledge and heritage, and an idea has real impact only when it reaches innovation and commercialisation. Kartikeya Sarabhai (Founder Director, CEE) stressed timely conservation of India's traditional knowledge, and Vinod Agarwal (Convenor, CII Gujarat Task Force) stressed intellectual property awareness.
